Annie B. Stone – Wauquiez Pretorien 35

Built for sailors who value craftsmanship, offshore capability, and timeless performance, Annie B. Stone is an outstanding example of the highly respected Wauquiez Pretorien 35. This well-built French cruiser combines exceptional sailing characteristics with world-class construction, making her an ideal choice for coastal cruising or extended bluewater adventures.

The Pretorien 35 is a proven go-anywhere design with a bluewater pedigree famously endorsed by renowned cruising experts Hal Roth and Bob Ketchmer. Designed as a fast cruiser, she delivers balanced, predictable handling in heavy weather while offering the strength and confidence needed for offshore passages. Although influenced by the IOR era, her robust construction, sailing performance, and enduring quality continue to rival many of the finest production boats in the world.

Wauquiez has long been recognized for superior craftsmanship, and the Pretorien 35 is no exception. The solid fiberglass hull is reinforced with six full-length longitudinal stringers that stiffen the hull panels and encapsulate the bulkheads, creating exceptional structural integrity. Many of these construction details are hidden from view, but the remarkable fit and finish are evident throughout the interior, even inside lockers, where the builder’s attention to detail is immediately apparent. Blending classic styling with dependable offshore performance, the Pretorien remains one of the most respected cruising sailboats in her class.

Designed and equipped for serious cruising, Annie B. Stone is perfectly suited for a cruising couple while offering comfortable accommodations for additional guests. At anchor, the large salon dining table provides an inviting space for entertaining, while the full cockpit enclosure can be zipped open for ventilation or fully closed to provide protection from wind, rain, and waves.

Originally built as a sloop, the boat was upgraded in 2016 with the addition of a staysail, creating a versatile double-headsail sloop rig. She is also equipped with a gennaker and a storm trysail, while all halyards are led aft through stopper blocks for safe and convenient handling from the cockpit.

The professionally repainted deck (2023) enhances both appearance and durability.

Galley & Interior

The compact yet practical galley features double stainless-steel sinks, distinctive tile countertops, generous storage, and a two-burner propane stove with oven installed in 2019. Refrigeration was replaced in 2021, while the hot water heater, replaced in 2013, operates from either shore power or engine heat. Fresh water is supplied by two 30-gallon stainless-steel tanks.

The head has been upgraded with a Nature’s Head composting toilet, offering a modern, low-maintenance solution for extended cruising.

For added comfort in cooler climates, the cabin is heated by a Wallas diesel forced-air heating system, which uses the bilge as the return air source to keep the interior warm and dry.
